Javea has plans for more neighbourhood police stations around the district. Raf Bas, the town’s new citizen security councilor, unveiled his plans for more permanent police stations stating: “the aim is to decentralize the police force. Now residents do not necessarily have to go to the town centre to report and incident as they will be able to do so in their neighborhood.”
Concerns rose about the crime rate in 2004 when a series of villa burglaries were occurring in Javea. Police mounted night time patrols in an effort to control the situation. The latest figures show that crime has fallen dramatically in Javea since 2004, with crimes against properties down 30.6%. The local police chief Cristobal Buigues stated the patrols had been an effort: “but they have given excellent results”. These changes to the structure of the local police are important in the step-up against crime.
