The Arenal and the Port now have new local police stations. The idea is to make it easier for people to reach the police and report incidents. Cristobal Buigues, the Police Chief, commented: “People can now do the same as they would normally do in the main police station”. The objective to reduce crime rates in Javea will be more achievable with the new local stations.
In June 2006 a Special Unit for domestic violence will be launched. Over a period of time it has become evident that more and more cases involve domestic violence. A local effort takes place, with The Women in Business Club. In May 2004 they launched a media awareness campaign and since regularly hold fundraising events in order to support the victims of domestic violence. Efforts from both the United Nations and Amnesty International urged the Spanish government to help, and now it seems some steps have been made, with plans of a new Unit to open. The police also announced that they will increase their attention to fine those who choose to park wrongly. There is a problem with double parking in Javea, as lots of the shops are situated on roads with no nearby parking areas. (Please see the Transport Section, Parking Rules for more information).
