Shopping in Javea
ImageThe town's outdoor market takes place every Thursday (old town-parking place) and is a bustling market, offering a huge range of fresh produce. The stalls are full of fresh seasonal fruit, vegetables, nuts, fish and meats. It’s an economical way to shop, and you can barter as most prices aren’t on display.

Leather goods and shoes can be found along with linens and clothing stalls. Some stalls sell the same items for different prices so it’s worth having a wonder around.

At the side of the church of San Bartolome, is the Indoor Market, a beautiful Neo Gothic building. You can buy local fresh produce daily, and it’s an excellent way to practice your Spanish.

For imported foods the larger super markets now stock more products It can be quite expensive but the range is becoming larger.

Opening times of shops tend to follow the traditional times based around the siesta, with many closing around 13.30 to 14.00, and opening up again between 16.00 and 17.00. The main reason behind this is to avoid working in the hottest part of the day in the summer months. Many non-food shops do not open until 9.30 or 10 a.m. and some shops do not open on a Saturday afternoon, or if they are open on Saturdays, like a Hairdressers for example, they usually do not open on a Monday.Nearly all shops and local smaller supermarkets are closed on a Sunday. On national and local bank holidays, it is best to check beforehand, some supermarkets open during the morning, especially if the bank holiday falls on a Saturday or Monday.

ImageThe Arenal has a range of clothing shops, for Men and Women, from the ethnic cheaper style clothing to the more expensive designer brands. The main chemist at Arenal, shown by its neon green cross, is open through out the lunch period, and has an opticians too.

The Old Town, has a few shops tucked away down its narrow streets, they are mainly boutiques or furniture shops. There are art shops and galleries that are well worth a visit, and many cafes to stop and rest between the shopping.

ImageThe Port has newsagents stocking magazines and papers in several languages. Plus a couple of English book stores, plenty of hair salons, and  several furniture and home ware shops. All three zones of Javea offer the basic amenities, supermarkets, chemists and shops.

For serious shopping many people travel to La Marina the shopping mall by Carrefour in Benidorm. About an hours drive away is the beautiful buzzing city of Valencia, where you can shop in all the well known stores and department stores.
