Cricket
Not many people have the opportunity to play cricket all through the year but here in Spain, the great climate makes it possible and there are clubs all across the country.

Jávea Cricket Club was the first on the Costa Blanca, founded in 1992, it’s proud to be one of the most successful clubs in Spain. Achievements include winning the National League in 1996, and again in 1998. The Club plays regularly against touring sides, mainly from England, and tours across Spain and Europe. It recognizes the importance of helping younger players taking part, and works together with the Town Hall.

For water sports enthusiasts there are plenty of possibilities, the modern Nautical Club at the marina has 300 berths and facilities for all forms of water sports imaginable. It’s located in the far end of the Port. The area has a cafeteria where you can sit and overlook the boats in the marina. The opening times of the Nautical Club are 9.00 – 22.00.

The bays around Javea are mainly pebble and rock making the water crystal clear, which is great if you enjoy snorkeling, a favourite bay for this is Granadella. If you want assistance or an organized dive there are many diving clubs and schools in Jávea.  The clam waters of the bay invite water sports such as water ski or swimming, Imagenear the beach L’Arenal, you can hire jet skis, water skis and also pedal boats.Volleyball nets are popular, and set up on the sand for all to use in the warmer months of the year.

Walking / Hiking
Montgo natural park and the cliffs of the coast offer many options for lovers of trekking and climbing. A landscape of incomparable beauty spreads inland from the coast, and as you twist and turn through the hills you can enjoy the combination of colours in view.

Montgo is a great landmark of Javea and you can walk up parts of the mountain, if you approach the area from the national road 332 or the A-7 Motorway, follow the line of the rocky outcrop, and take the Javea-Denia road.  Once there a winding track is the first climb up. The summit, 753 metres high, is always in sight. On a clear day once high enough, the island of Ibiza can be seen in the East. The exceptional climate of the area enables out door sports to be enjoyed all year round, with an average yearly temperature of 16.5 degrees.

ImageAnother route is the Cap Sant Antonio. This route has views to remember, you can start the walk from the “Platja del Tango” beach area at the end of the Marina. The Tourist information plaque guides the way. The abandoned windmills seen on this route are found on the foothills of Montgo. There are eleven cyclindrical windmills in total, with some having been restored for touristic interst.

Inside a ground floor can be observed and the upper level supported by a Tosca stone block held the machinery which was in place until the end of the 19th Century. The Windmills were built from the 14th Century to grind wheat and a lesser extent other cereals, powered by wind and wooden mechanisms. The views are spectacular and you can explore the history of the area too.
